ADR History

   
Since its formation in 1975, Alan Docking Racing (ADR) has established itself as one of the UK's most versatile teams and many former ADR drivers have gone on to compete successfully in motor racing's higher echelons. Seventeen to race in Formula 1, eleven in Formula 3000 and three in Champ Cars, others enjoy success in sports cars and touring cars in Europe, the US, Australia and Japan - confirming the quality of the ADR team.

Many of our engineers and mechanics have also joined elite international teams including McLaren, Honda, Red Bull, Jordan Grand Prix, Williams and Renault F1 teams.

A1 Grand Prix - Team Australia
ADR was responsible for the engineering side of the A1 Grand Prix Team Australia since the inauguration of this Championship in 2005.

European Formula 2 Championship
Running the semi-works Toleman team in this forerunner of today’s GP2

British Formula 3 Championship
Winning the championship three times

British Touring Car Championship
Competing with the unique Holden Commodore and winning at Snetterton

World Sports Car Championship
Contracted by Mazdaspeed Tokyo to assist with their European racing programme, ADR subsequently competed with the WSC car on a global basis racing in Europe, South America and Japan. The car winning at Le Mans in 1991

The FIA GT3 Championship
Running the Works Ascari KZR1 GT cars under the banner of Team Berlanga in this exciting European championship.

ADR has extensive experience of international blue riband events, including the Marlboro Masters, the Korean Superprix, the Macau Grand Prix and the Macau Fuji Challenge in Japan. Heinz Harold Frentzen, Mika Salo, Jacques Villeneuve and Mark Webber are among the many drivers who raced for ADR in these events.

Many sponsors and drivers have approached ADR for assistance in driver development. Larger projects include:

The McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award
This award was launched in 1989 to recognise and reward the talent of up-and-coming racing drivers. For many years ADR provided the the team's Formula 3 cars and the engineers and mechanics for the driver evaluation process, assisting the BRDC in the selection of the driver to receive this award. In addition to the kudos of winning this award, recipients are given a valuable cash prize to help fund their racing programme and a test in a McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car.
Drivers produced by this scheme include Jenson Button, Gary Paffett and David Coulthard.

Red Bull

Recognising ADR's experience energy drink manufacturer Red Bull contracted the team to assist in helping talented young American drivers to achieve a seat in Formula 1. The first graduate of this programme was Scott Speed, who went on to drive for the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team.
